About Mary Gauthier

The Associated Press named Mary Gauthier as one of the best songwriters of her generation. Her 2018 release, Rifles & Rosary Beads (a collection of songs co-written with wounded veterans) was nominated at the 61st GRAMMY Awards (2019) for Best Folk Album. The record was also nominated for Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association, and named Album of the Year by Folk Alliance International. That same year, Mary was crowned the title of International Artist of the Year by The Americana Association UK.

Her songs have been recorded by dozens of artists, including Jimmy Buffett, Boy George, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Bettye Lavette, Mike Farris, Kathy Mattea, Bobby Bare, Amy Helm, and Candi Staton. Her songs have been featured ABC TV's Nashville and Paramount’s Yellowstone.

Mary is a published author as well. Her debut book, Saved by a Song explores the healing power of songwriting, and has received great praise among industry peers and enthusiastsalike.

With songwriting as powerful as hers, there’s no need to go looking for qualifiers. She’s a unique, intrinsically valuable musical voice. And there’s never a surplus
of those.

those sentiments that may well resonate with others as well.”

Rarely does an album have so much emotional impact.”

-Entertainment Focus

During the pandemic, Mary developed a 90 minute livestream show with songwriter Jaimee Harris called Sundays With Mary where 10,000+ fans joined in and various guests performed. Some of the guests included Lori McKenna, James McMurty, Hayes Carl, and many more. Sundays With Mary was such a hit that Mary continued to livestream shows through 2022 and continues to do them sporadically when home from touring.

Part memoir, part philosophy of art, and part nuts and bolts of songwriting, Saved by a Song is a discussion of the art and healing power of songs and songwriting.

Saved By a Song is an exploration of the redemptive power of song, through the eyes of a Grammy nominated songwriter whose addiction and recovery provide the background story to demonstrate the power of songs to inspire and change lives. Songs can repair hearts and heal souls; this book celebrates this amazing alchemy. It is a deep dive into the art and healing power of songs for both the songwriter, and the listener.

“I wrote this book as a love letter to songwriters, song-lovers, and songs. It is a behind the curtain look at both my writing process and my life. My desire and motivation is to reach more students than I could ever reach in one lifetime, in person. My deepest hope with this book is to encourage courage in those who read it.”
